 Measuring sail areas
The raceboard class rules define 9.5 square metres as the maximum sail size.
Is there a specific methodology by which sail areas are measured?

 Re: Measuring sail areas
PS.
How accurate are the areas of off-the-shelf sails?
That is, if you buy a 9.5 square metre production sail, how much variability is there is sail size?

 Re: Measuring sail areas
Yes,it is a very complicated system that is used to measure sails,by dividing the sail in parts that are individually measured and added. When i was authorised by Norwegian sailing assn. many years ago ,I used 1 hour to measure a sail .
