Post New specifications of the Phantom Race 380
The registered raceboards' list of ISAF has been updated : you can download the pdf here : http://www.sailing.org/11675.php

There is a new board in this list, the 2009 Phantom Race 380.

The specifications of the board have slightly changed.
Lighter : 12,5 kg ! (before 13,9)
More volume : 303 ltrs (before : 295)
Longer : 377 (before : 374,5)
Narrower : 68,2 (before : 69,6)

It's a good thing to see that people of starboard are committed with their raceboard and try to improve it.
Wake up, Exocet ! ;-)

I think that the new heel recess to push down the daggerboard is a good improvement too.

I'd love to see a 25 lb (11.34 kg) Phantom 320.
That would make me seriously consider replacing my Phoenix 320.
Love the Phoenix, but earlier planning with adjustable mast track might be compelling.
Cheers, rickp

Weel now it's offical, owners of the 2008 model will get a new 09 toy to play with for free due ti recall. Mind you if you waited for a year for the board you might not be overjoyed at the news.

I think the Phoneix is one the boards that plans with minimum input necessary - 'easy planning'. I don't think any of the newer hybrids seems to quite have that quality. As you say weight probably makes a big difference. Mind you the Bic 310 is heavy and the shape doesn't look anything special but it just glides bettter than 310*80 ought to. But you do feel weight when trying to bump the board up onto a plane.

It's great to see Starboard refining the design.

Aside from the revised dimensions, is there any feedback re the change to teh shape / lines (eg rocker, volume distribution, rail shape, bottom shape)?
